49 Chevy Project
Year #2 of the 49 Chevy Project started with the car on jack stands with the engine, front suspension, transmission, fuel tank, guages, and most of the interior having been removed and in various stages around the garage.
Engine |
The engine has spent some time at the engine shop being bored .060 over and getting new pistons, rings, bearings...in other words a complete rebuild. The stock intake is being replaced with an Offenhouser dual carb set up and the exhause will be a dual exhaust with Fenton headers. Click here to see the progress of the intake and exhaust install. |
Guages |
Checking the accuracy of the temp guage...Click here for the description of the process used. |
Suspension |
The original springs had been torched to cause them to sag under the weight of the car to give the car the lowered look. the look was there, but the ride suffered accordingly. Springs from a 54 were installed with 1 3/4" lowering blocks on the rear. The front brake conversion required using dropped steering arms which drop the front about 2". New front springs with 1 coil cut were added to lower it even further. New shocks all around-stock rear and 69 Camaro on the front. |
Brakes |
A rear end from a 53 Chevy with a Powerglide Trans was installed for a better gear ratio. As an added benefit, the 53 rear has Bendix brakes so all new brakes, e-brake cables, and brake lines have replaced the 49 Huck brakes. On the front, disc brakes were added using components from Buffalo Enterprises. Click here to see the new disc brake conversion.ower |
