Engine |
The engine continues to run smooth and not give us any trouble. This winter we moved the car to the home garage (note...wife is not real happy her car has to sit outside all winter!) There were a couple of real cold days that I started it up just to see if it would. It took a few cranks but then it would pop and run fine. Knowing the road draft system only works when the car is in motion, I investigated and finally installed a pcv system in place of the draft tube. I was going to design my own but then a member of Chevytalk forum sent me some pics of the one he had made and since he had another one already made, I decided to go with a proven piece. Check out how it looks here. |
Air
Conditioning
/ Heater |
As the weather turned cooler and then downright cold, we decided it was time to install the heater and since the AC is in the same unit the total package was installed. The AC has not been charged until spring but the heater blows nice and warm. I did take it for a spin right after the heater was all hooked up and it was pretty chilly but was nice an toasty inside. Part of the install included insulation of the passenger compartment, check out the AC install here. |
Door
Poppers |
When we got the car, the outside door handles had been "shaved" and filled. To get into the car we had to leave a vent window open so we could reach in and pull on the inside handle. After reading severl articles on do-it-yorself door poppers, I decided to invest in a complete kit fro Electric Life. The kit includes the door solenoids, thrusters, relays, wires, cables, and two 12 function key fobs. Check out the installation here. |
Body Work |
We continue to work on the body as we find things needing attention. I welded the center seam of the hood, filled all the holes (72!) from the trim on the top of the windows. The stainless will still be used around the windshield and the rear window but the only other stainless trim will be the beltline under the windows. There was also some holes in the roof where a visor had been attached so I welded those up while I was filling holes. Check out the welding. |
Windshield
washers
|
The car came without windshield wiper, so early on I got some wiper transmissions and added the wipers. When I put those in and while putting in the AC unit I noticed that the small tubes were there for washers. So I decided to put on some washers. |
Suspension |
The initial trips found the ride to be still a little rough. The install of the disc brakes lowered the front end about 3" and I put in new springs with 2 coils cut off...it was very low. It was so low that it would drag when crossing the center crown of the city streets. So some stock prings were installed and now it rides much nicer. Will continues to lobby for air bags. |
